Third Sector Strategy Groups

Charities and not for profit organisations face strategic challenges as much as any other commercially based organisation.

TSSG is a regular forum for key executives and decision makers, allowing them to discuss the issues facing their charitable organisations and the opportunity to share ideas and best practice.

Charities and not for profit organisations face strategic challenges as much as any other commercially based organisation. Trustees have an obligation to safeguard the assets under their control and to maximise the impact for beneficiaries.

The Third Sector Strategy Group is a regular forum for key executives and decision makers, allowing them to discuss the issues facing their charitable organisations and the opportunity to share ideas and best practice. Meeting on a quarterly basis over lunch, the agenda is driven by its members but draws from the expertise and knowledge of the hosts Dafferns and Lodders Solicitors. Topics discussed have included:

  • Tax implications of charitable trading
  • Charitable structures, including CIOs
  • Trustees responsibilities
  • Mergers and collaborative working
  • Conflicts of interest
  • Changing UKGAAP and revised Charities SORPs
  • GDPR

TSSG members are also introduced to tools and techniques to help them deal with strategic change in their organisations.

Three separate TSSG groups are in operation, two of which deal with the sub-sectoral charity specialisms of housing and agriculture, whilst the other TSSG focuses on general charities.
