BREXIT Going down to the wire

Saturday 16 February 2019, 41 days until BREXIT

I am somewhat shocked that the Government’s official advice page for UK businesses on what to do in the event of a no deal BREXIT has not been updated since 6 February.

No new advice? Seriously? One can only assume that No Deal isn’t really seen by the Government as a possibility……..

The Graham Brady Amendment was passed on Tuesaday 29 January, that was the Government’s big “win”, giving them a mandate to seek changes to the Irish Border Backstop. Since then, the EU have at least publicly said a great big NON.

There are a couple of big dates ahead for the UK and the Government

27 February – MPs get to vote on the Cooper Letwin Amendment, which if passed will take No Deal away as an option for Mrs May in negotiations and will start to give the House of Commons the power to sort this mess out rather than the Government.

Cooper and Letwin are a cross party power not to be underestimated. Yvette Cooper is a former Labour Cabinet Minister and Oliver Letwin was a part of David Cameron’s Cabinet and some say the brain behind Cameron.

21 March – The EU Council meeting in Brussels. This will be D Day, or B Day?

In other news, we know the Conservative Party is split over BREXIT, but in the coming week, the Labour Party may actually split, with MPs leaving to form a new party. Labour Deputy Leader Tom Watson, admitting to the BBC’s John Pienaar this week that this was a real possibility…….

What is going to happen?

The UK will not leave the EU on 29 March, there isn’t time whatever happens

There will not be a No Deal BREXIT on 29 March

I still think, at some point, we’re going to get a Twix
