Despite enormous efforts by the Rally Isle of Man 2018 organising team, this rallying event was sadly cancelled! However, this hasn’t stopped our sponsored driver Les Allfrey from racing in his mini as he will now be travelling to Belgium and taking part in the upcoming Hemicuda Rally.
Hemicuda Rally is one of the most exciting events in the racing calendar! The event, based in Koekelare – Flanders region – Belgium, consists of a round of 5 championships and can accept up to 160 cars, competing over a distance of 250kms.
From 20th – 21st October the Rally will be back with hundreds of spectators, and will appear all over YouTube and other social media channels. The location of this race, the Flanders region of Belgium, is a topical location itself made infamous by the Great War, WW1, which is remembered in its 100th anniversary this year.
Dafferns are sponsoring Les and his mini in this year’s race and will be watching on as he competes in the Hemicuda Rally. Les started rallying in his 20s, going on to take part in his first International RAC Rally GB in 1971. Since then he has been followed by International Rally Wales and International Rally Scotland.
Apart from his beloved Austin Mini Cooper S, Les has also raced for BMC and Peugeot dealer teams. Les has rallied in Spain, Germany and Ireland, and whilst rallying in Belgium he became a historic champion in 2012! To add to his impressive wins Les has also had 2 international class wins in Killarney and a Rally GB class win! As it appears Les may be driving the only historic mini in the upcoming Hemicuda Rally, he will certainly have extra eyes and attention on him as he wizzes through the roads!
The rally itself is set to bring in an impressive crowd as rallying is immensely popular in Belgium, even more so than the UK. Crews will be coming from mainland Europe and as much as 50% will be UK drivers.
Good luck to Les from the whole team at Dafferns!
